Physical education at The Roseland Academy develops pupils’ competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school.
The curriculum enables all pupils to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity. They develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are performing, they are encouraged to think about what they are doing, analyse the situation and make decisions. They also reflect on their own and others’ performances and find ways to improve them.
The Department is includes the following staff:
- Mr Ashwin – Teaching Team leader of Physical Education
- Mr Avery – PE teacher
- Miss Hall – Part Time PE Teacher
- Mrs Dove – Part Time PE teacher
- Mr Winter – Teaching Practitioner for DPT Department
Extra Curricular We provide a variety of extra curricular clubs for students in a range of different sports. Please see the bulletin for the latest clubs on offer.
Taster Sessions and Community Clubs Here at the Roseland, we try and get specialist coaches to come in to school whenever we can. Just a few examples of who we’ve had in already are; the Cornish Pirates (for a whole week), Judo coaches, Professional Choreographers, a Capoeira Instructor, Frescoball Instructor, International Cricketer and a Parkour coach.
The Sports Hall is open to the community for certain clubs and sessions. It is also available for private hire. Please see Claire Henderson for more details or email
Carrick Dance The Carrick Dance is an annual event that involves all the secondary schools from the Carrick area performing dance at Cornwall’s premier venue, The Hall for Cornwall. The project is in its 18th year and has seen hundreds of Roseland students perform at the event.
Achievements We have some very talented sports players/athletes in our school. Look out for our new notice board in the sports hall, which will celebrate their amazing achievements.
