Parents are asked to check planner entries and sign it weekly to ensure that homework is being carried out.
In the event of any difficulty, the planner may be used as a means of communication between home and subject Teachers or the form Tutor.
Homework at Key Stage 3 Core subjects, including Modern Foreign Languages, should set weekly homework in their subjects.
Foundation subjects should set a fortnightly homework with the exception of Ethics and Philosophy, Music and ICT which set homework every three weeks.
Homework at Key Stage 4 Homework should be set weekly in both Core and Option subjects. This is with the exception of Philosophy & Ethics and ICT. The form of the homework will vary according to the time of year e.g revision before Trial Exams or preparing for a controlled assessment.
The objectives of homework:
- That all students are given the opportunity and support to develop as independent learners.
- That all students are given the opportunity to see the curriculum as a whole and to see the connections between differing areas of the curriculum.
- That all students are given the opportunity to develop skills as well as knowledge.
- That teachers, students and parents are given the opportunity to work in partnership to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn outside as well as in the classroom.
