Parent & Carer Update on Remote Learning

24 April 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

We hope you are well, managing to stay safe and your children are not missing school too much! We have had some constructive feedback about the volume of work, the scheduling of when work is set and that students would like to see their teachers (although they probably wouldn’t admit it!). We are working on how to develop these areas and others.

Below are some important updates as we progress through the next period of lockdown.

Remote learning expectations

Please can you support us by reading the expectations document below. The expectations have also been shared with staff and students. As we continue to learn the best ways to engage students in remote learning, it is important we all understand what is expected of everyone involved so that we can communicate effectively and provide the best possible experiences for our young people.

‘Live’ sessions with staff

We are currently producing a timetable that will allow students to ‘meet’ teachers using Google Meet within the Google Classroom. These sessions will not be taught lessons to begin with but will be an opportunity for students to ask questions about work and clarify their understanding of how it should be completed. These sessions are not compulsory for all students to join and are there as an extra layer of support for students.

Students have been emailed a Google Meet Code of Conduct form which must be completed before attending a Google Meet.

The timetable for these sessions is available on the school website and has been emailed to students school Google accounts. The links to the meets will be published in Google classrooms.

Google meet app can be downloaded to phones/tablets/PC or laptop.

Google Guardians sign up

We are setting all our work through Google Classrooms so that students know where to find their work. Within Google Classroom there is the ability for parents/carers to receive daily or weekly update emails showing work set, work completed and any work that has been missed as well as announcements from within Google Classroom. You will receive one email summarising all of the subjects your child studies. If you are not yet signed up please complete the form below and the Learning Leaders will ensure you are signed up as quickly as possible.

We would recommend that you select daily updates as we are encouraging staff to spread the setting of work throughout the week. Selecting the weekly option will only give you a summary at the end of every week.
