We are delighted to announce that earlier this year the school was granted a donation for music education by the EMI Music Sound Foundation in celebration of the Charity’s 20th Anniversary. The expanded donation has allowed the school to invest in some fantastic new musical equipment and supported an exciting range of extra-curricular musical activities at The Roseland Academy, as well as expanding our musical outreach to partner primary schools.
This year The Roseland Academy has spent some of the EMI MSF funding on a new ‘Rock School’ after-school club to nurture some of our most talented young musicians and provide them with further performance opportunities. The club has been led by our resident Guitar Tutor Mr Crowe and Expressive Arts Development Officer Wendy Polley, with support from other Music and DPT Department staff.
At the end of the summer term 2018 our rock school students put on a fantastic show, performing work in progress in an informal showcase to parents and carers. The evening included some rock classics, original compositions, and a wide range of solo and group performances. Entry to our rock school programme is by audition, and we hope to develop this project with further activities next academic year – please see Miss Polley for more details.
